Roxul stone wool products are water repellent, non-hygroscopic and non-capillary. They are manufactured from a volcanic rock, and the inorganic fibres in Roxul stone wool are specially treated with water repellent additives to meet the highest requirements with regard to water repellence.
Roxul insulation materials leaves the system less sensitive to defects in weather proofing or the painting film, because of its high water repellence.
Water Repellency
The Water Repellency of Roxul products, in accordance with BS 2972 (total immersion) is > 96 (Vol. %). In accordance with the German industrial standard AGI Q 136, the water repellence is > 99 (Vol. %).
Water Vapour Sorption
The Water Vapour Sorption in accordance with ASTM C 1104/1104M is < 0.02 (vol. %).
Condensation control
When calculating vapour diffusion through a structure, the vapour resistance of Roxul products is negligible and usually considered similar to air. Roxul products therefore reduce the risk of condensation and allow natural drying out of the construction due to their ability to “breathe”.
Capillarity
Roxul products are non-capillary and do not absorb water. They do not draw water into the insulation.
Chemically inert
An aqueous extract of our products is slightly alkaline, so the danger of corrosion of unprotected steel is diminished.
Chloride content
Roxul stone wool meets the requirements of ASTM C 795 “Standard specification for Thermal Insulation for Use in Contact with Austenitic Stainless Steel”.
