Singapore's Green Mark

The Green Mark Scheme was first launched by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in 2005 but is now a mandatory requirement in the Building Code. This means that all new buildings in Singapore must now be designed and built to achieve the minimum Green Mark ratings score at the very least.

Buildings are awarded points based on a range of criteria, right from the project conceptualisation and design to construction stage. Energy efficiency is one of the most important criteria in its ratings.

The Asia Business Council book on ‘Why Green Buildings are Key to Asia’s Future’, talks about energy efficiency in buildings offering the most cost-effective way to reduce energy use and CO2 emissions. It is in fact one of the most important single areas to focus on as the world tries to cope with climate change issues.
